Mortar restoration that matches the original joint.
Tuckpointing is the restoration of mortar joints between bricks. It looks straightforward, but doing it well takes a craftsman’s eye — the joint profile, mortar color, and tooling all have to match the original work, or the repair stands out forever.
We remove deteriorated mortar to a proper depth, repoint with mortar mixed to match the existing color, and tool the joint to match the original profile (concave, V, weather struck, etc.). On older homes especially, that match matters. A 1920s home shouldn’t look like it had work done last Tuesday.
Repointing is usually half the job. We also handle crack filling and, once the joints are sound, masonry waterproofing — a breathable water repellent that strengthens the mortar’s defense against the next freeze-thaw cycle. It’s the cheapest insurance brick can buy.
We tuckpoint chimneys, brick exteriors, and stone masonry. If you’ve got crumbling joints or daylight showing through where mortar should be, that’s your sign.
